Privacy Policy

Classly is built so that there is almost nothing to collect. Your recordings, your transcripts and your notes stay on your own computer. We do not run a server that stores them, and we have no way to read them.

Who is responsible

Classly is operated by an individual developer based in Switzerland. For any question about this policy or about your data, write to info@pp15.one.

What stays on your computer

Everything below is written to your own Mac and is never sent to us:

• Audio captured while you record
• The live transcript of a lesson
• The notes generated during a lesson
• The answer cards shown in the overlay window
• The session file saved after each lesson
• Your subjects and any course material you add
• Your API keys, stored in the app's local settings

What leaves your computer

Classly cannot transcribe or answer on its own. To do that, it sends data directly from your computer to two service providers, using the API keys you enter yourself:

Deepgram

While a recording runs, the captured audio is streamed to Deepgram for speech-to-text. Deepgram returns the transcript. This connection is made from your computer with your own Deepgram account.

Anthropic

Detected questions, short excerpts of the transcript and, if you added it, your course material are sent to the Anthropic API so that an answer and the running notes can be produced. This connection is also made from your computer with your own Anthropic account.

Because you use your own accounts, the terms and privacy policies of those two providers govern that data. Please read them before you start recording. We are not a party to that relationship and receive no copy of what is sent.

This website

The Classly website is a single static page. It sets no cookies, embeds no advertising and runs no analytics or tracking scripts. It is hosted by Vercel, which processes standard server log data such as IP address and browser type in order to deliver the page, as any web host does. Downloads are served from GitHub, which counts how often a file was downloaded but does not identify you to us.

Recording other people

Classly records sound in a room, which usually means it records other people.

In Switzerland, recording a non-public conversation without the consent of everyone taking part is a criminal offence under Article 179ter of the Swiss Criminal Code. Comparable rules exist in most other countries, and several US states require the consent of every party. Ask your teacher, and anyone else who can be heard, before you press record.

Because those recordings never reach us, we cannot delete them for you, and we cannot answer a request from a third party about them. That responsibility sits with you as the person operating the app.

Your rights

Swiss data protection law gives you the right to know what personal data is held about you, to have it corrected, and to have it deleted. Since we hold no personal data about users of the app, there is in practice nothing for us to disclose or erase. If you have written to us by email, that message sits in our mailbox and you may ask us to delete it at any time.

To remove everything Classly has stored on your computer, delete the app together with its session folder and its settings.

Children

Classly is intended for use in an educational setting and may be used by pupils. It collects no personal data from anyone, regardless of age. If you are at school, ask your teacher or your parents before recording a lesson.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it. Because the app has no account system, we cannot notify you individually, so please check this page occasionally.

Applicable law

This policy is governed by Swiss law, in particular the Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP).
